Top 3 LEAST Flattering Bridesmaid Dress Colors!

September 30, 2013
Okay, so last week we went over the Top 5 Most Flattering Bridesmaid Dress Colors! And the response was so great! A couple of the shades might have come as a surprise to you, but for the most part, the colors I chose were classic, dark shades that in my opinion are universally flattering. And so as promised, today we'll be taking a look at a short list of colors that I consider to be the least flattering colors when it comes to bridesmaid dresses.

Did you know that wearing the wrong color can actually make you look up to 3 dress sizes larger? Yep, it's true. There are colors out there that are absolutely unforgiving. These are the sort of colors that you absolutely dread to wear as a bridesmaid because you just know that the color is going to wash you out. Or even worse, show every little imperfection. Ugh! Simply put, these are the colors you probably wouldn't want to wear if you were a bridesmaid in a wedding. So why put your friends through the agony?

Okay. So before I go on, I just have to point out that the dresses above are clearly examples of beautiful bridesmaid dresses in an array of very flattering shades! When it comes to determining the perfect bridesmaid dress, let it be known... Dessy Group does it right!

But as I mentioned there are a select few colors that just are hard to pull off. Am I saying it can't be done? No, of course not! Let's face it, there are certainly women who just have a way of pulling off any color or any style no matter the day of the week! I, for one, am not that kinda girl!

So without further ado, let's talk about these dreaded colors, shall we?

Okay, so I have nothing against peach as a wedding color, but when worn as a dress, it's super easy for most skin tones to sort of be washed out. It's a hard color to pull off, especially if you are lacking a Summer tan. And if you have a fair complexion... good luck! Okay, that sounded harsh. But it's true, fair skinned people just have a hard time pulling off peach!

Still set on peach for your bridesmaids? Well, if you care about finding a flattering dress, I urge you to consider a deeper shade of peach. One that leans more towards coral.

Beige is similar to peach in that it lacks a lot of pigment. And sadly, this too is just another color that ultimately has a way of washing out most people out. It's unforgiving and it can appear 'blah' if not done right. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I've never seen a gorgeous, vintage inspired wedding that used neutrals like beige to pull it all together. But what I am saying is that for the most part, beige is just not a universally flattering color to wear! And quite frankly, it's a little drab!

If your heart is set on beige. I urge you to consider other colors first. But if you still feel that this is the color for you, simply opt for the darkest shade of beige available. Or better yet, opt for a dress that has a great pattern or print!

It's not often that we see bridesmaids in white. But there's been a recent trend where couples are opting for an 'all-white' wedding. Personally, I like to see white reserved for the bride only (for traditional reasons). But white is also a really tough color to wear. Especially in the form of a dress. Don't get me wrong, I love wearing a white blouse with a pair of jeans. But white pants? You'd never catch me wearing those. Not because I don't love the look. I just feel like it shows every little thing.

Well, if you insist on having white incorporated, perhaps you should look into a two-tone dress that has a darker shade on the bottom? Perhaps black on bottom, white on top? Breaking up the white with a dark color on bottom will definitely be a lot more flattering and easier on the eyes. And besides, a little contrast is always a good thing!

So there you have it! My top 3 least flattering colors for bridesmaids! If I had to guess, the colors probably didn't surprise you much? The concept is pretty simple. Darker colors are more universally flattering and lighter colors are just sadly a little harder to pull off. I hope these tips will help you to select the right dress for your bridesmaids! Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know which colors you love to wear? And which colors you have a harder time pulling off?

5 Fabulous Fall Color Palettes!

September 26, 2013
So this past Sunday was the first official day of Fall, you guys! Can you feel my excitement? Um, yeah. I'm pretty excited. Not only has the weather cooled off a little here in Georgia, but I've also started gearing up for all of the upcoming Fall festivities. I've pulled out my favorite boots, I've decorated our mantle with all kinds of Fall pretties, and I even treated myself to a new scarf the other day!

Fall is my favorite. Not only do I love it because it's the season we said ''I do,'' but there are also many other reasons! Like for starters, I don't think I'll ever tire of driving through the mountains to see the changing leaves. And pumpkin spiced lattes? Are those not the best? Oh, and I can't go without mentioning our annual trip to the pumpkin patch (complete with hayrides and apple cider!).

But nothing quite captures the essence of Fall quite like the colors! They're warm, they're cozy and if I'm being honest, they're really the sort of colors that I gravitate towards most.

Want to know what some of my favorite Fall color palettes are? Well, you're in luck because today I'm sharing 5 fabulous Fall color palettes. So pour yourself a cup of tea and get your pinning finger ready, because these pretty palettes are sure to put you in a fabulous Fall mood!

First up on the list is this unexpected pairing of shades of orange, purple and brown. For me, these colors just scream Fall. But at the same time, it's not a color palette you see every day! Warm, spicy, and all kinds of pretty, this palette truly does have a way of easily blending eclectic and rustic styles. And for that reason alone, I'm in love!

Next up we have this gorgeous palette of cranberry and mustard. This palette is just exuding Fall, is it not? I'm so in love with this full wreath and what's not to love about this photo booth backdrop? I love the big bold statement it makes! And those caramel apples on branches? Are those not the cutest things you've ever seen?

Fall is a time to use dramatic colors. And this palette which combines jet black with shades of brown and mustard really is just that. It's got an intensity to it. But at the same time there are some really great rustic touches that soften it just a bit.

I love these colors for many reasons. And I'm hoping you can see why? This reddish brown color really is amazing. Anyone else agree? To me, it embodies all that is Fall and then some. I'm so obsessed with these gorgeous accessories. Like that sweet little bow belt and this gorgeous headpiece.

Last but not least, we have this lovely palette which combines cranberry, gray and just a touch of brown. I love it for many reasons, but mostly I'm attracted to this because I feel like cranberry and gray really are a perfectly balanced palette. Cranberry is vibrant and full of warm energy while gray is cool, sleek and understated. Not to mention the perfect neutral for this palette.

So what do you think? Have I convinced anyone to pull out your sweaters and your chunky scarves? I sure hope so! Be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know if you have any Fall traditions yourself? I'd love to hear about what you love to do during this fabulous season! Oh, and which of these color palettes are you finding yourself drawn to on this fine Fall day?

Wedding Wardrobe | Glitz + Glam

September 25, 2013
When it comes to dressing your bridal party, perhaps you've had a little trouble coordinating a look that you feel works? Or maybe you're just a little unsure about how to accessorize? Wherever you are in the process, one thing is for sure...

Sparkly gold really does have a way of setting the stage for elegance and sophistication. Wouldn't you agree? And so today I thought it would be fun to put together a look that communicates just that! I'm obsessed this color for many reasons and I'm hoping you can see why? Just one look at that gorgeous detailing on this dress bodice and I just can't help but start dreaming of all the pretty possibilities!

Because what's not to love? A girl can never have enough sparkle, I say! Looking for shoes to coordinate? Take your pick between these glittery heels or these flower adorned flats! Or better yet... have your bridesmaids wear the heels for the ceremony and let them slip into something more comfortable after all the dancing begins! Looking for jewelry that will really wow? I'm really liking this art deco inspired necklace. And those heart studs? Well, they're looking pretty sweet from here!

Oh, and as if things couldn't be any more perfect... Take a peek at that gold bangle bracelet by Kate Spade. The outside reads, "Partners in Crime, Peas in a Pod, Sidekicks, Birds of a Feather, Two of a Kind, Perfect Pairs.'' While the inside reads, "Best Friend Ever." What a sweet and thoughtful bridesmaid gift! So tell me... anyone else having a love affair with glittery gold? And if so, tell me what other colors you like to pair it with?

Color Story | Coral + Gold

September 24, 2013
Today my love for coral truly shows with this creative palette of coral and gold. Looking for colors that will make your guests say ''wow?'' Well, have you considered something unique like this? Coral is warm and spicy and vibrant while gold exudes a special sort of elegance. And when it comes to style...Well, as you can see here you're really free to incorporate all sorts of styles!

And I think what makes this palette so special! It's the mixing of the modern and the vintage. I love how the modern motif on the wedding cake mixes so well with those vintage inspired bridal hair pieces. It's truly a look that I wish we could see more often in weddings. Because for me, the real magic happens often when you stop telling yourself that you have to do things a certain way. Because that's no fun, am I right? So tell me, what sort of creative ideas are you pondering over on this lovely Tuesday?

Top 5 Most Flattering Bridesmaid Dress Colors!

September 23, 2013
Ever wonder what colors are considered the most flattering when it comes to bridesmaid dresses? Hoping to find a dress that will look nice on everyone? Well, get excited my loves because today I'm breaking down the top 5 most flattering bridesmaid dress colors and a couple of the selections might surprise you! So let's get started, shall we?

If finding a flattering bridesmaid dress color is high on your list of priorities, then I urge you to consider a color like teal. Not only is teal great at hiding any imperfections it's also the sort of color that really flatters most skin tones. This is because teal is the opposite of pink on the color spectrum and so it flatters the healthy flush in your cheeks!

Looking for a color that is vibrant, versatile and oh-so flattering? This gorgeous shade of purple really is a beauty. Wouldn't you agree? Rich, elegant, and originally associated with royalty, this deep purple shade is a universally flattering color. And because this color falls into the middle of the color spectrum, meaning it's not too warm or too cool, you can easily use this color for any season!

All dresses are part of the Dessy Group collection and can be purchased here.

This next color is one of my all time favorite bridesmaid dress colors. And I'm hoping you can see why? Gray is cool and modern and the perfect neutral for any wedding no matter the season! It's a dark shade and so therefore it instantly minimizes any imperfections.

Navy is as versatile as black but a tad more fun and modern. The perfect neutral color, I love to see navy used for nautical weddings. If you're looking to incorporate a bit of a preppy feel I suggest a color like navy. Not only is it one of the most flattering colors around, but it's definitely a color your friends can wear again and again.

Black is and will always be the most flattering color to wear. And this holds true when it comes to bridesmaid dresses as well. It easily flatters any shape or size and has a very classic feel to it. Looking for a color that will look amazing on everyone? Although it might not be the most creative color on the block, there's no denying that black is the most flattering color of them all.

So there you have it! The top 5 most flattering bridesmaid dress colors of all time! Were you surprised by any of the shades? Or disappointed you didn't see a particular color represented? Not to fret! There are plenty of other flattering shades! My advice is to simply keep in mind the different skin tones and body types when making those oh-so important color decisions.

Okay, so now you might be asking yourself, ''what are the least flattering bridesmaid dress colors and how do I avoid them?'' Well, I'm here to tell you that there are surely some very unflattering colors out there. You know the kind. They're the sort of colors that are very pretty, but only certain people can pull off! Want to know what these colors are? Well, be sure to stay tuned because next week I'll be sharing my top 3 least flattering colors for bridesmaid dresses and the colors might really surprise you.

Wedding Colors | Lavender + Mint

September 20, 2013
Happy Friday, all you color lovers out there. Today my obsession for mint is front and center with this lovely little palette of lavender and mint. What's soft and pretty and perfect for a Spring or Summer wedding? I happen to think that this creative color scheme is all of the above! Mint is fresh and has a modern vibe to it while lavender just adds that perfect touch of femininity and romance.

Plus I'm just loving the way that you can keep things light and airy with these colors. But then when it makes sense, it's so easy to add a pop of punchy color here and there. Like those striped straws for example. The bold lines really grab your eye and add a little interest to an already very soft and pretty look. Oh, and I can't go without mentioning my love with these colorful bottles. Such a creative idea and a pretty alternative to your more traditional floral centerpieces. So what do you think? Has lavender and mint captured your heart like it has mine? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

Pantone Palette | Grayed Jade!

September 19, 2013
Today my love for color continues with this soft and sultry shade that goes by the name 'Grayed Jade.' Perhaps you remember that this color was included in Pantone's Top 10 colors for Spring 2013. And understandably so. Just one look at this shade and I'm instantly feeling so inspired. It's soft, it's romantic, and if I were still planning my wedding, it's just the sort of color that would have me second guessing any of my color palette front runners!

I know I focus on a lot of bold color palettes here on The Perfect Palette. And I'm not sure why that is? Because the truth is that I'm equally obsessed with the lighter more ethereal palettes. Because, honestly... what's not to love? There's a sort of quietness about this palette that I'm really drawn to. This feels peaceful and serene, and for those reasons alone, I'm quite smitten with this shade! So what do you think? Are you inspired by soft and subtle looks like these?

Top 5 Wedding Color Mistakes + Ways to Avoid them!

September 10, 2013
Okay, so I think it's safe to say that I've witnessed my fair share of wedding color mistakes over the years. So I thought it might be helpful for you guys if I gathered up the top 5 mistakes that I sadly see pop up a lot more than you'd expect! So let's dive into it!

When deciding on your color palette, I urge you to seriously consider the reception space! For instance, if you’ve chosen a reception area with burgundy and gold carpets, a color scheme of lime green and fuchsia will surely clash, and there’s really no way around it. That’s not to say you have to choose colors that perfectly match the surroundings.

I suggest using the venue’s decor as more of a guide when selecting your palette. Or simply choose a space that lacks a lot of color so that you won't have to worry about a potential clash!

Okay, so one thing that you must realize is that color in a lot of respects in sort of subjective. Your idea of vibrant coral blooms might not be exactly what your florist shows up with on the day of your wedding. Are you going to be okay if your coral colored blooms turn out to be baby pink? Some couples wouldn't let this bother them. And I say, all power to ya! But simply put, some brides would really have a problem if their dream blooms ended up totally clashing with the overall look.

Request that your florist put together some test bouquets. That way you know that you're on the same page when it comes to color. And there won't be any surprises on the day of!

I would have to agree that selecting your wedding colors has to be one of the most exciting parts of the planning process. Your colors set the tone for the entire feel of your day! But what happens when you prolong deciding on your colors? If you don't decide on a timely manner, be prepared to find yourself scurrying around in a desperate attempt to find items that will match or coordinate. Especially if you've chosen a more unique scheme.

Give yourself a deadline! At some point in the dreaming period (as I like to call it) you must start putting those dreams into action. And without a color palette, not much can get accomplished!

I've seen this one all too often. Okay, so here's what happens. You've decided that you want a pale pink wedding. So you go out select a pale pink bridesmaid dress for all your friends to wear. And then without even thinking, you turn around and order the same color bouquets. If you don't take into consideration contrast and variation, you can sadly expect to create a look that lacks interest and pizzazz.

Think about contrast when you're selecting your attire, invitations and table linens. Think about the big picture and note that each of these layers should not all be the same. exact. color. Add contrast by selecting varying shades!

Okay, so this mistake is a common one and sadly it happens a lot! The truth is that not every color is a great pick when it comes to dressing your bridal party. Some colors wash people out, others simply aren't flattering.

When selecting a bridesmaid dress I urge you to consider the varying skin tones and body shapes. For instance, not everyone is going to be able to rock that cocktail length dress in chartreuse. So take your girls to the bridal shop and narrow down a color that compliments the majority of your attendants. I swear your friends will thank you!

So there you have it. I hope this has been helpful. Just a few things to keep in mind when making the decision on the colors for you big day! So tell me... what sort of color conundrums have you found yourself in here lately? Need help? Be sure to hop on over to the request section and leave me a note! Still unsure as to how to narrow down the choices? Take a peek at my Top 10 Wedding Color Palettes that Aren't Boring! Trust me, after you read this, you'll be well on your way to finding your perfect palette!

Because seriously, guys. What's not to love? I suggest pairing beautiful blue tones like this with shades of pink for a very preppy feel. Or you might consider pairing this shade of blue with a crisp, clean white for a more sophisticated or modern vibe. So what do you think? Are you liking this shade of blue? And if so, tell me what colors you like to see paired with this shade?

Color Story | The WOW Factor!

September 6, 2013
Happy Friday, all you color crazed brides-to-be. Today I'm excited to bring you this snazzy and sophisticated look that is sure to elicit the 'wow factor,' at your upcoming wedding and/or party! Now, you might be asking yourself, what is this 'wow factor' that Chrissy is talking about? Where can I get it? And most importantly, how can I get it? Well, for me, the 'wow factor' happens when gorgeous styling meets amazing color. Sound intimidating much? Not to fret. I swear things needn't be elaborate or over the top. Most of the time elegance can be found in the simplest of things.

I love this palette because it's quite simple, really. Mixing fuchsia with gold accents and a very small touch of black and gray really is quite pretty. Anyone agree? There's a little variation in the pinks here so that you are seeing some dark and some light. Which I really think is key in achieving this look. I personally can't get enough of the back of that bridesmaid dress. And what's not to love about this gorgeous wedding invitation design from our friends over at Shine Wedding Invitations?

Party Palette | Harvest Hues!

September 4, 2013
Okay, so. I mentioned that I'm a HUGE fan of Autumn, right? Okay, let's get real. You guys totally know me. So why do I even find it necessary to ask this question? I think it's pretty safe to say that I've totally made my love known for all things Autumn. Am I right? And shades of orange and ivory? Such a perfect palette if you ask me!

Because nothing makes me happier than when I start to feel a little chill in the air. Anyone else? For me, it's just the coziest of seasons. It's a time for using warm and vibrant color. And of course I'm being biased here... but I just have to add that it is one of the prettiest times to say ''I do.'' Festive, fun and all kinds of fabulous...these are the sort of colors that Autumn lovers (like me) adore! Anyone else feeling like breaking out the boots and scarves yet? Or is it just me?
