Now Trending: Black + White Done Right

What color palette manages to come across as classic, vintage inspired and all kinds of chic? None other than this black and white look I put together here recently for a very sweet reader of mine. You see, Shannon asked if I could put together a look that embodied timeless beauty. She didn't want to look back at her photos and have color palette remorse. And I totally get it. Some palettes are definitely not the sort that will stand the test of time. And so what did I suggest? Keep it simple, I said. If you go with black and white you really can't go wrong.

Not to mention the fact that you don't have to pull your hair out trying to find the perfect shade of this or that. Not saying this palette is for everyone! But sometimes a return back to simplicity and classic elegance is just what you need. Plus there are just so many gorgeous ways to bring a black and white wedding to life!

Like this sweet and simple wedding cake. There's not much to it, but boy does it pop when placed on that black cake pedestal. Looking for a unique and creative way to let your guests know which seat is theirs? I'm totally swooning over these little chalkboard frames. Anyone else? Oh, and what's not to love about these vintage inspired popcorn bags! I personally had a popcorn bar at our wedding and it was a huge hit!

So tell me... are you a fan of black and white? And if so, tell me what creative ideas you might incorporate to make it yours?

Hey, so from a Dad perspective Caroline Lima was the ultimate professional. She knew exactly what to do and how to prepare. She was very unobtrusive in the actual wedding. I can highly recommend her! My daughter made some great decisions for this wedding, from location, wedding planner and photographer it was great and on a fairly reasonable budget as well, I thought.

As I florist the one thing I would say is that you can't always get a sample bouquet; certain flowers are available certain limited times of year, colours can vary depending on the sun flowers get, etc. Sometimes flowers don't exist in some colours. I would say, don't let flowers be an after thought in the colour process. Go in with samples of your colours and discuss the possibilities, and find a florist that you trust! Otherwise great suggestions!

I love the color palette - the florals really pop against the navy!

I'm also a floral & event designer and the one thing our owner is very on key about is the pantone the bride selects. The most important aspect of our renderings is the color palette, if we hit the pantone and style of the bride then we are set. Yes, depending on grower / supplier color can vary a bit but not extraordinarily. Plus you create a buffer in your contract that if specific florals are not available at that time of year then the florist, in their best power sticks with the pantone and style as close as possible. That with any " Act of God / Mother Nature" you have the power to act and decide upon your product that will be used. That way you ensure your trust with your client and your clients know you will make the best decision possible with whatever is at hand knowing that mother nature isn't always cooperative. Your client really doesn't want excuses just positive reassuring results.

P.s. Thought I should not forget my credit to the wonderful blog, Love it! Sorry but had to play devils advocate slightly with the other floral designers for I understand your message but there is always an alternative way to pleasing our clients. Plus, I never take slightly to the challenge of exceeding expectations, I learned it from the absolute best. = )

What a great post! When I was getting married I had to change venues. I woke up in a panic one day realizing that now my sage green bridesmaid dress were going to blend in to the grass at the golf course. Definitely take the big picture in mind and the color of your surrounds. Great post!

Very interesting post, thanks for that !
As a wedding photographer, indeed, the choice of colors is an important one.
Basically, I love everything as long as people are in love, but my camera likes it better when colors are matching :)
