{Color Conundrum}: Combining Shades of Red + Green?

{Cranberry, Light Sage, Camel, Taupe, Ivory + White}

Recently I had a request that can only be described as a 'color conundrum.' Lainey's problem, she told me, was that she was desperate to try to find a way to combine the colors red + green. She explained to me that she was dead set on wanting red as one of the main colors and her husband on the other hand was dead set on having some green incorporated in some way. Naturally, the concern was this combination would automatically scream 'Christmas!' So my challenge was to create a palette that incorporated green and red in some fashion and also create a look that was far from holiday inspired. So off to the drawing board I went! And here is my design! {continued...}

Pretty Portrait + Favor Bags!

I have to admit, it's a true challenge to create a green + red palette and have it turn out not looking holiday-ish. However, I have to say that I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. What I discovered was that in order to marry these colors successfully it's important to use a deeper cranberry shade, not a traditional, bright red. Also the use of a light and creamy shade of sage green is crucial. Did you notice this is actually a new color we've added to our palette?

Now, it's true, I didn't add a lot of green into this palette. It's used very sparingly on invitations and in the floral arrangements. Oh, and you even see a little bit in the curtains featured here. This is not to say you should have curtains custom made for your wedding, ladies! Some of the ideas I'm loving in this board are the red bistro chairs, the stationery by Ruby + Willow and that adorable hand stitched ring pillow! So what do you think? Did I manage to pull it off?

And what about you? Do you have a color conundrum? If you do, be sure to stop by our request page and leave us yours! I'm looking forward to working through your 'Color Conundrums' with you! xo
