{Summer Love}: A Palette of Yellow & Slate Gray

January 24, 2010

{Yellow, Slate Gray & Gray}

Nothing says Summer like the color yellow. And while we still may be in the midst of the month of Winter, I have to admit that I'm looking forward to sunnier days! Summer weddings have to be on the top of my list of favorites! It's just such a carefree time. Summer brings back fond childhood memories for me. I remember running through the sprinklers at full speed, summer treats like ice cream and popsicles, and of course who could forget the fun I had with my neighborhood friends and our lucrative lemonade stand? For me, a Summer wedding is the perfect time to bring back that childhood fun! It's also a great time to use bright, vibrant color. For this palette, I chose the bright color of yellow & the subdued, ever-so-chic, color of slate gray. Some of my favorite ideas in this board include the fun and quirky bridal party attire, the gorgeous handmade clutches that I imagined would make for perfect bridesmaid gifts and of course the idea of setting up an old fashioned lemonade stand at the reception!

So how are you feeling about Yellow? If you know me, then you know I L-O-V-E Yellow. But that's not to say that it's for everyone! Some people are just not yellow fans! But for those of you who are...rest assured you're not alone! There is something so fun about this palette. Any brides-to-be out there who are considering yellow? Do tell!

I love yellow and gray! In fact, I did an inspiration board for it last week on my blog! What I love about guys in gray/bridesmaids in silver is that they can truly wear their attire again after the wedding. And the only thing happier than flowers? Yellow flowers. Thanks for posting!

I adore this inspiration board! Do you know any of the designers behind the items?

If I had to do it all over, I believe this would be the choice for me. I just love it. I tried to find an email contact for you, but wanted to let you know that your palettes inspire my wedding garters. I just can't keep up with you though!

(sorry for posting here!)

How do we ask a question? I'm having a nightmare of a time choosing my colors, and I'm getting married this June!

I'm having a June wedding (so summer), but at night (ceremony not even starting until 6:30), and the venue is between formal and semi-formal. We're being married outside, and the reception is inside, and the room is floor to ceiling glass windows and doors on three sides overlooking a gorgeous lake. Where there are walls/moldings they are white/ivory. There's a pitched ceiling with a skylight, and all of that is also white/ivory.

So! I'm starting out with a rather white/ivory canvas and I'm shying away from green dresses because I don't want them to blend into the background (either outside or infront of the windows, the lake is surrounded by trees too).

Soooo, I don't know what to do! I love the idea of royal purple, but that seems to dark for 1. summer, and 2. floor length dresses (85% that the BMs are wearing floor length).

Can anyone help?

p.s. Plum is out, I don't like the reddish hue
p.p.s Navy Blue is out, I don't want it to look Nautical

Thanks so much!

You can direct all custom board requests to my email at chrissymarie98@gmail.com. However, please no that its taking me a long time to respond!

I used to have my email posted on my site, but since I'm swamped with requests (hundreds and hundreds of them) i took my email down for the time being so I could attempt to catch up.

In the mean time, check out our summer boards by clicking the Summer tab to your left!

Just from what you said, have you considered colors like orange or bright yellow? Summer is the perfect time for these hues

A friend of mine is doing the same palette, i just got their invite in the mail and it looks gorgeous.

This is my palette and the wedding colours im using

I chose these colours because i am going for an earthy elegance. I feel the brown and greens give it the earthy tone while the purple here and there gives it the rich tone i was looking for.

Yellow is my favorite color and I want to use it in my wedding, but we're getting married in December! Any ideas? I'm thinking of using the gray/silver combo and perhaps a blue shade as well.

The grey and yellow combo is so striking. We just had a wedding at our facility incorporate pops of yellow in the flowers and linens. It brought such a light and airy feel to the room!
